Funeral March turns every creature your opponents control into a liability — when it leaves the battlefield, its controller loses 2 life and you gain 2, which compounds fast in a four-player game. The cost is three mana and a card slot for a static enchantment that does nothing until creatures die, so it lives or dies on how much removal and sacrifice your table sees.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Funeral March actually earns its slot — three opponents means every creature death is a four-life swing relative to a single target, and games go long enough for those drains to accumulate into a legitimate win condition. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; three mana for a slow enchantment that doesn't affect the board immediately has no business in those formats. Pauper is the only other format worth a second look, where life-drain strategies are viable and the card pool is constrained enough that a reliable drain trigger has real standing.

Price Context
Current price
$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Funeral March is deep bulk — you're picking it out of a dollar box or ordering a playset for less than a pack of gum. Bulk enchantments with narrow appeal don't appreciate unless a new commander pushes the archetype into the spotlight, so treat this as a cheap include, not a hold.
