Fry

In Commander, Fry earns a sideboard-style role in the main deck for red-heavy builds that need outs to hexproof and indestructible threats — think Hammer of Purphoros or Purphoros, God of the Forge lists that can't easily splash white removal. The targeting restriction to white and blue is meaningful in a four-player pod, but those colors dominate Commander's most powerful threats: Elesh Norn, Rhystic Study's controller, Atraxa, Praetors' Voice, and most of the format's dangerous planeswalkers. In Pioneer and Modern, Fry lives in sideboards as a clean answer to Teferi, Hero of Dominaria or Solitude in white-blue shells. Legacy and Vintage have access to better options, so Fry rarely sees play there outside of budget constraints.
