Freyalise's Winds
Enchantment
Whenever a permanent becomes tapped, put a wind counter on it.
If a permanent with a wind counter on it would untap during its controller's untap step, remove all wind counters from it instead.

Freyalise's Winds locks every creature on the battlefield into a cumulative upkeep tax measured in that creature's own power — stay too long and your opponents' boards cost more to maintain than they're worth. The catch is symmetry: if your creatures have power, they're paying too, so this card only earns its slot in decks built to dodge or weaponize that constraint.

Freyalise's Winds is a Commander card through and through — it needs time to accumulate counters, an opponent base of at least three players to apply meaningful pressure across multiple boards, and a deck built to ignore or exploit the symmetry. In Legacy and Vintage, where it is technically legal, no competitive shell wants a four-mana enchantment that does nothing the turn it enters and is trivially answered before it warps a game; the formats simply move too fast. Commander is where the math finally works: over several turns, high-power creature decks face a genuine resource drain, and the political angle of watching two opponents debate whether to pay for their Eldrazi is real. Oathbreaker shares the two-player structure that weakens the card, but dedicated stax builds can still find a niche for it.
