Fresh Meat card art
Fresh Meat converts a board wipe into an immediate army — every creature you just lost becomes a 3/3 Beast token at instant speed, on the same turn the board gets cleared. At four mana, it's cheap enough to hold open while advancing your game plan, and it's the single best reason Thromok the Insatiable can laugh at a Wrath of God.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Thromok the Insatiable

Thromok the Insatiable

30.3% of decks · synergy 0.30

Thromok the Insatiable eats tokens to grow, so Fresh Meat turning a board wipe into a fresh wave of 3/3s means the devour trigger is never far away — you lose your creatures, replace them instantly, then feed them all to Thromok on the next turn.

02
Ghired, Conclave Exile

Ghired, Conclave Exile

14.3% of decks · synergy 0.14

Ghired, Conclave Exile populates tokens, and the 3/3 Beasts Fresh Meat produces are exactly the kind of board presence worth copying — losing your team to a sweeper and rebuilding with tokens that immediately slot into the populate engine makes Fresh Meat a natural fit.

03
Ruxa, Patient Professor

Ruxa, Patient Professor

14.3% of decks · synergy 0.14

Ruxa, Patient Professor grants bonus abilities to creatures with no abilities, and the vanilla 3/3 Beasts Fresh Meat produces qualify on arrival — the resilience angle is especially relevant here since Ruxa decks lean on attacking with underpowered bodies that opponents are happy to sweep.

04
Prossh, Skyraider of Kher

Prossh, Skyraider of Kher

10.3% of decks · synergy 0.10

Prossh, Skyraider of Kher enters with a pile of Kobold tokens and wants to sacrifice them for damage, so Fresh Meat closing the loop after a sweeper — turning sacrificed or killed creatures back into 3/3s — refuels the sacrifice engine before the dust settles.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Fresh Meat earns its slot — multiplayer tables run enough sweepers that a four-mana instant replacement effect is live almost every game, and the token count scales with the size of the board that just died. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but functionally irrelevant; those formats end too quickly for a reactive token spell at four mana to matter. Modern has faster clocks and more efficient recovery tools, so Fresh Meat doesn't compete there. The card's home is unambiguously Commander, specifically in green creature-heavy decks that expect to get wiped and want to punish it.

Price Context

Current price

$0.26 bulk tier

At $0.26, Fresh Meat is deep bulk — pick it up out of any dollar bin or tack it onto any order without thinking twice. The price is stable at this floor and unlikely to move given the card's narrow application, but for what it does in the right deck, it's one of the highest-value quarters you can spend.
