Font of Mythos card art
Font of Mythos puts four cards in every player's hand at the start of their turn — the single biggest symmetrical draw effect in Commander outside of Consecrated Sphinx lines. The catch is "symmetrical," which means you only run it in decks that punish opponents for drawing, and Kami of the Crescent Moon is the canonical proof of concept.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Kami of the Crescent Moon

Kami of the Crescent Moon

63.8% of decks · synergy 0.62

Kami of the Crescent Moon already makes opponents draw an extra card each turn; Font of Mythos stacks on top, flooding the table with cards and maximizing every group-slug and wheel payoff in the 99.

02
Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse

51.9% of decks · synergy 0.50

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse turns every opponent's draw step into a drain trigger, so Font of Mythos effectively reads 'each opponent loses 4 life at the start of each of their turns' — at four mana that's an absurd rate of passive damage.

03
Kwain, Itinerant Meddler

Kwain, Itinerant Meddler

39.0% of decks · synergy 0.37

Kwain, Itinerant Meddler leans into high-volume group hug draw to enable life-drain and political leverage; Font of Mythos is one of the most reliable engines to keep the table drawing and Kwain's triggers stacking.

04
Nekusar, the Mindrazer

Nekusar, the Mindrazer

38.7% of decks · synergy 0.36

Nekusar, the Mindrazer deals damage each time an opponent draws a card, making Font of Mythos a four-mana enchantment that pings the table for four damage every time their turns come around.

05
Ian Malcolm, Chaotician

Ian Malcolm, Chaotician

32.6% of decks · synergy 0.32

Ian Malcolm, Chaotician rewards chaos and high card-draw volume across the table; Font of Mythos reliably inflates everyone's hand size each turn, maximizing the triggers that fire off chaotic draw and discard effects.

Font of Mythos is a Commander card through and through — the symmetrical four-card draw that cripples you in a duel becomes a political tool and damage engine when three opponents are drawing simultaneously. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with fast combo environments where giving your opponent four cards is a concession, not a strategy; it sees no meaningful play there. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander format where group-slug builds occasionally find a home for it, though the smaller starting hand size makes flooding the table slightly less oppressive. Bottom line: sleeve Font of Mythos if and only if your deck is built to punish the draws it enables.

Budget Alternatives

Cheaper options that do most of the same work

Howling Mine does roughly half the work at a fraction of the price — it draws every player one extra card per turn instead of four, which is worse in group-slug shells but acceptable in casual group hug builds. Temple Bell is another one-mana cheaper option that adds the political dimension of a tap ability, though the voluntarily-activated ceiling means less guaranteed throughput compared to Font of Mythos's automatic trigger.

Price Context

Current price

$15.81 mid tier

At $15.81, Font of Mythos sits in the mid tier — meaningful enough to feel in a budget, niche enough that demand stays concentrated in dedicated group-slug and punisher builds. It holds its price because the effect is unique at this scale, but don't expect it to climb; casual demand has a ceiling.
