Flux lets you discard any number of cards and draw that many — a clean hand-smoothing effect that doubles as a discard outlet at instant speed for two mana. In dedicated discard-matters builds, especially under Rielle, the Everwise, that conditional upside turns a cantrip into a free hand refill.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Rielle, the Everwise
Rielle, the Everwise turns Flux into a one-sided Wheel — you discard your hand, Rielle's replacement effect draws you that many additional cards, and you end up with more cards than you started with for two mana.

Vnwxt, Verbose Host
Vnwxt, Verbose Host rewards stacking the graveyard with discarded cards, and Flux delivers a repeatable, cheap discard trigger that also replaces itself — exactly the kind of low-cost engine piece the deck wants.

Kami of the Crescent Moon
Kami of the Crescent Moon decks lean hard on high card-velocity, and Flux fits as a budget hand-filter that keeps the flow of cards moving while feeding any discard synergies in the 99.

The Locust God
Every card drawn under The Locust God makes an insect token, so Flux — which can draw four or five cards in a single activation — punches well above its mana cost as a token generator.

Queza, Augur of Agonies
Queza, Augur of Agonies drains opponents for each card drawn, so Flux's mass-draw effect translates directly into a burst of life loss for every player at the table.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Flux earns its keep: discard-matters commanders are numerous and powerful enough that a two-mana instant-speed outlet that replaces itself is never dead. In Pauper, Flux is legal but competes in a denser field of commons where the effect is less reliably broken — it sees fringe play there. Legacy and Vintage both allow it, but the effect is too low-impact and too conditional to see serious play in those formats. Outside of Commander, treat Flux as a bulk common that simply doesn't have a competitive home.
