Fireblade Artist puts a repeatable sacrifice outlet on a 2/2 haste body for two mana, draining an opponent for 2 each upkeep as long as you can keep feeding it creatures. The cost is real — you need a steady supply of fodder or it stops doing anything — but in a deck built around token generation or recursive creatures, that condition is trivially met.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Fireblade Artist slots cleanly into sacrifice and aristocrats builds — the haste body matters less than the free, repeatable outlet that happens to tax opponents' life totals over a long game. In Pauper, it competes in the Rakdos sacrifice shell alongside Carrion Feeder and Deadly Dispute, where the triggered drain is a legitimate win condition across multiple turns. Modern and Pioneer have faster, more redundant sacrifice engines available, so Fireblade Artist rarely makes the cut outside of budget builds. Legacy doesn't want it at all — the format moves too fast for a two-mana creature that requires setup.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Fireblade Artist is deep bulk — you're paying nearly nothing for a card that does meaningful work in the right shell. Bulk rares and uncommons at this price floor don't climb without a sudden spike in competitive demand, which this card is unlikely to see, so buy as many as you need without thinking twice.
