Finale of Devastation
Sorcery
Search your library and/or graveyard for a creature card with mana value X or less and put it onto the battlefield. If you search your library this way, shuffle. If X is 10 or more, creatures you control get +X/+X and gain haste until end of turn.

Finale of Devastation closes games — cast it for X=10 or more and every creature on your battlefield gets +X/+X and haste, turning any board into a lethal alpha strike the same turn you resolve it. The cost is real green mana investment, but decks like Thrasios, Triton Hero // Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful and Riku of Two Reflections routinely assemble the mana to hit that threshold, making Finale of Devastation one of the cleanest tutor-plus-finisher combinations in Commander.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Thrasios, Triton Hero // Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful
Thrasios, Triton Hero // Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful is a cEDH mainstay that generates infinite mana through compact two-card engines, and Finale of Devastation is the preferred outlet — tutor Thrasios directly onto the battlefield to sink that mana, then swing for lethal the same turn.

Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy
Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy doubles nonland mana sources, which means infinite-mana lines arrive early and consistently; Finale of Devastation converts that pile of mana into a tutor that immediately ends the game.

Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools // Thrasios, Triton Hero
Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools // Thrasios, Triton Hero runs the same Thrasios-as-mana-sink gameplan as other cEDH Thrasios pairings, and Finale of Devastation fills the same role — a single spell that tutors, deploys, and wins.

Witherbloom, the Balancer
Witherbloom, the Balancer builds toward large mana totals through life-payment loops, and Finale of Devastation provides the payoff that translates accumulated resources into an immediate board-wide pump and lethal swing.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds
Selvala, Heart of the Wilds produces explosive bursts of green mana off large creatures, and Finale of Devastation turns that surplus into a tutor for whatever creature closes the game while simultaneously granting the team haste to attack before opponents can respond.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Finale of Devastation is most at home — the format's high mana ceilings mean hitting X=10 is realistic, the creature-tutor half finds whatever combo piece or threat you need, and the pump-plus-haste rider ends the game on the spot rather than setting up for a future turn. In Legacy and Vintage it sees fringe play in green creature toolbox shells, but those formats move fast enough that a five-mana sorcery rarely fits the pace. Modern and Pioneer allow it, but the same problem applies: the formats punish five-mana sorceries that don't win immediately on their own, and the big-X payoff requires a dedicated mana engine to be reliable. Oathbreaker shares Commander's singleton structure and can build the mana base to support it, making it a legitimate finisher there too.
