Fasting
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a hunger counter on this enchantment. Then destroy this enchantment if it has five or more hunger counters on it.
If you would begin your draw step, you may skip that step instead. If you do, you gain 2 life.
When you draw a card, destroy this enchantment.

Fasting gains you life every upkeep you skip a land drop — then draws you a card when you've stockpiled enough counters, and destroys itself the moment you play a land. The payoff is too conditional and the self-destruction clause too punishing for any deck that actually wants to hit its mana drops, which is nearly every deck.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Fasting is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no play in any of them. In Commander, the enchantment's engine — skip land drops to accumulate counters, eventually draw a card — runs directly against the format's need for consistent mana development over a long game. Legacy and Vintage are too fast and too powerful for a one-mana enchantment that asks you to sacrifice board development for incremental life gain. Oathbreaker shares Commander's fundamental mana dependencies, so Fasting offers nothing there either.

Price Context
Current price
$0.94 bulk tier
At $0.94, Fasting sits at the high end of bulk — a price driven entirely by low supply on an old card, not by demand. It does not hold value as a playable; if you pull one, trade it before the market corrects downward.
