False Demise card art
False Demise staples a repeatable resurrection engine onto any creature for three mana — when the enchanted creature dies, it returns to the battlefield with False Demise still attached, ready to do it again. The rate is real, and Iridescent Drake turning that loop into a free recursion chain for other Auras makes this card considerably more dangerous than its bulk price suggests.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

Commander is where False Demise does its best work, slotting into any deck that wants a creature to be effectively unkillable or needs an Aura on the battlefield to trigger loop engines. Pauper is the other format worth flagging — common-legal recursion at this rate is genuinely scarce, and False Demise earns a real look in Aura-matters or flicker-adjacent builds there. Legacy and Vintage both allow it, but the effect is too slow and too narrow to compete in those environments. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: synergy-driven value, legal and playable, but not a format staple.

Price Context

Current price

$0.26 bulk tier

At $0.26, False Demise is deep bulk — you're not paying for scarcity, you're paying for cardboard. Given its combo ceiling, that price is unlikely to climb unless a new Commander precon pushes the Aura-recursion archetype into the spotlight.
