Fallow Earth puts a land on top of an opponent's library for three mana at sorcery speed — a tempo hit that delays their next draw and sets back their mana development simultaneously. It's a niche piece of land disruption that earns its slot only in dedicated land-hate or stax builds, not general good-stuff decks.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Fallow Earth is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander it occupies a narrow stax role, slowing down a land-light opponent or resetting a utility land for a turn, but three mana at sorcery speed is a steep ask when Strip Mine and Ghost Quarter exist. Legacy and Vintage have faster, more permanent land disruption available, so Fallow Earth doesn't register in those formats. Oathbreaker is the one context where slowing a single player's development could matter more, but even there the card is fringe at best.

$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Fallow Earth is firmly bulk — easy to acquire, easy to cut without financial regret. Demand is too narrow for the price to move meaningfully in either direction.
