Fake Your Own Death card art
Fake Your Own Death is a one-mana instant that saves a creature from removal, replaces itself in hand, and triggers any enter-the-battlefield or death effect on the way out and back in — all at the cost of a single black mana. It slots cleanly into any deck running Dualcaster Mage combo lines or sacrifice loops, and Evereth, Viceroy of Plunder builds run it at nearly 48% inclusion for exactly that reason.

Yargle and Multani

Yargle and Multani

27.4% of decks · synergy 0.25

Yargle and Multani is a single massive creature that opponents will answer the moment it lands, so Fake Your Own Death acts as a one-mana protection spell that also resets any auras or counters interactions on re-entry.

Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

Tinybones, Bauble Burglar

29.3% of decks · synergy 0.22

Tinybones, Bauble Burglar mills cards and cares about artifacts leaving the graveyard, and Fake Your Own Death generates extra death triggers on demand while keeping a key creature alive through removal.

04
Deadpool, Trading Card

Deadpool, Trading Card

27.8% of decks · synergy 0.21

Deadpool, Trading Card scores points every time it dies and returns, making Fake Your Own Death a one-mana way to manufacture a free death trigger and get Deadpool back on the battlefield ready to do it again.

Juri, Master of the Revue

Juri, Master of the Revue

Fake Your Own Death is legal everywhere and quietly playable in several of them. In Commander, it's the primary home — one mana to protect a value creature, generate a death trigger, and draw a card is exceptional rate, and it fits naturally into any black creature-combo shell. In Pauper it has genuine constructed viability as a cheap protection and cantrip piece in sacrifice decks. Modern and Pioneer see it occasionally in niche creature-loop builds, though faster formats tend to prefer effects with more immediate board impact. Legacy and Vintage are too tuned for it to register. The card's ceiling is Commander, where the density of ETB and death-trigger payoffs makes every cast pull double or triple duty.

Price Context

Current price

$0.11 bulk tier

At $0.11, Fake Your Own Death is deep bulk — the kind of card you pick out of a dollar box without thinking twice. That price is stable; it's widely printed and sees no competitive demand that would push it higher.
