Exploding Borders card art
Exploding Borders is a four-mana sorcery that fetches a basic land, puts it into play tapped, and deals damage to target player equal to the number of basic land types you control — ramp and reach stapled together at common. It's playable in domain-focused Commander shells, a strict skip everywhere else.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

In Commander, Exploding Borders earns a slot only in five-color or domain-matters builds where you can reliably hit all five basic land types and deal five damage to an opponent — meaningful face damage in a format where 40 life is the baseline. Pauper is the format where Exploding Borders has seen the most competitive daylight, slotting into domain aggro alongside Territorial Kavu and Tribal Flames as a reach spell that also fixes your mana. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage it's strictly outclassed by faster, more efficient domain payoffs, so it doesn't show up. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: only worth it if your signature spell or planeswalker is actively incentivizing a domain gameplan.

Price Context

Current price

$0.07 bulk tier

At $0.07, Exploding Borders is deep bulk — you're paying for the cardboard, not the card. It won't appreciate; domain commons don't spike, and this one is neither scarce nor a staple in any high-demand format.
