Erase exiles an enchantment for one white mana — no other spell does that job cheaper. It's a role-player, not a staple, but in any format where enchantments are the threat, the exile clause over destruction earns it a slot.

In Commander, Erase sits at the budget floor of enchantment removal, and the exile clause matters more than it looks — Rancor, Animate Dead, and recursive Sagas all laugh at destroy effects. The competition is stiff, though: Disenchant hits artifacts too, and Heliod's Intervention scales into the late game. Erase earns a slot when your meta is enchantment-heavy and you're cutting for cost or redundancy. In Pauper, it's a clean one-mana answer at common and sees sideboard play in white aggro for exactly that reason. Legacy and Vintage don't want it — Swords to Plowshares and Force of Will occupy that one-mana white slot, and enchantments rarely demand dedicated hate at that power level.
