Elemental Teachings is legal across every major format but exists almost entirely in Commander, where the learn/lesson mechanic has a permanent home through the sideboard rule equivalent. In 60-card formats like Modern and Pioneer, lesson cards sit in your sideboard and require a learn spell to access them — a two-card setup cost that rarely pays off at competitive tables. Standard legality is there on paper, but the same structural issue applies: Elemental Teachings needs a learn enabler to function as intended, and those enablers have to compete with more efficient options in tight formats. Commander is the only format where Elemental Teachings consistently earns its slot, and even there it's essentially a theme card rather than a staple.
