Dual Strike card art
Dual Strike copies the next instant or sorcery you cast this turn — for two mana at instant speed, that's a doubling effect that shows up before blockers are declared or before a spell resolves. Increasing Vengeance does the same job with flashback upside but costs more and is a sorcery; Dual Strike's instant speed is the reason Ashling, Flame Dancer decks want it specifically.

Ashling, Flame Dancer triggers off instants and sorceries to build a Chorus counter stack, and Dual Strike doubles that trigger while also copying the spell itself — one card advances the board state twice over.

Format Analysis

Commander is where Dual Strike actually earns its slot, specifically in spellslinger and storm-adjacent builds that can cash in the copy on a high-impact spell for a two-for-one at minimal cost. In competitive formats like Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's a fringe option — spell-copy effects exist on more powerful or more flexible cards, and the ceiling on a single copied spell rarely justifies the slot. Vintage has the card pool to abuse it but also has Fork effects with longer track records. Oathbreaker can use it similarly to Commander, especially in aggressive spell-based builds where doubling a single finisher closes the game.

Price Context

Current price

$0.23 bulk tier

At $0.23, Dual Strike sits firmly in bulk territory and carries no financial risk to try. Bulk spell-copy effects rarely spike unless a new commander puts them on the map, so expect the price to stay flat unless spellslinger commanders keep rising in popularity.
