Drowned Secrets turns every blue spell into a mill trigger, and at two mana it's cheap enough to land before your engine comes online. Pair it with Bruvac the Grandiloquent and each trigger doubles — opponents lose their libraries faster than most removal answers an enchantment. It won't win games alone, but it does kill players efficiently in the right shell, and it's too easy to slot in for mill decks to skip it — just protect it from Underworld Breach recursion letting opponents get it back.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Bruvac the Grandiloquent
Bruvac the Grandiloquent doubles every mill trigger, so Drowned Secrets goes from "mill two" to "mill four" on every blue spell you cast — that math closes games fast when you're slinging instants and sorceries each turn.

The Mindskinner
The Mindskinner wants to mill as a primary win condition, and Drowned Secrets provides a passive, repeatable trigger that doesn't require combat or activated abilities — every blue spell you cast accelerates the clock.

Neerdiv, Devious Diver
Neerdiv, Devious Diver rewards casting spells on opponents' turns, and Drowned Secrets converts that flash-spell density into a mill engine that fires around the table, making each reactive play do double duty.

Commander is where Drowned Secrets does its best work — mill is a viable win condition in 1v1 or multiplayer shells built around it, and two mana for a permanent trigger is well within the format's ramp curve. In Modern and Pioneer, dedicated mill decks exist but Drowned Secrets competes against more efficient options like Fractured Sanity and Tasha's Hideous Laughter that close games in fewer cards; it rarely makes the cut in competitive builds there. Legacy and Vintage have access to degenerate mill lines that obsolete a passive two-drop enchantment entirely. Drowned Secrets is at its ceiling in Commander, specifically in blue-heavy decks where casting spells is already the plan.

Current price
$0.58 bulk tier
At $0.58, Drowned Secrets sits firmly in bulk territory — low enough that there's no reason not to own a copy if you're building mill in any blue format. Bulk enchantments with niche appeal tend to stay in this range unless a new commander breaks them out, so don't expect the price to move.
