Disruptive Pitmage card art
Disruptive Pitmage puts a Forcefield on your spells — tap it to counter target spell unless its controller pays one extra mana, and the alter-ego card Missy staples a Wizard tribal payoff onto the same body. The cost is that it's a three-mana 1/1 that does nothing the turn it enters, making it a liability against any deck that answers creatures at instant speed.

In Commander, Disruptive Pitmage fits Wizard-tribal builds or soft-lock decks that want repeatable tax effects — the ability stacks with Rhystic Study and similar passive friction, but the creature's fragility means it rarely survives a full table rotation. In Pauper, where the bar for blue tempo pieces is highest and Wizard synergies are real, it finds its most competitive home, taxing opponents while triggering prowess and Wizard-matters cards. Legacy and Vintage both offer far more efficient countermagic, so Disruptive Pitmage is a non-starter in those formats outside of fringe Wizard tribal builds. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander — playable in the right shell, irrelevant outside it.

Price Context

Current price

$0.18 bulk tier

At $0.18, Disruptive Pitmage is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not demand. That price is stable because the card sees no competitive play to drive spikes, so there's no reason it moves meaningfully in either direction.
