Forcefield turns every attack into a nearly-toothless formality — paying 1 to reduce any attacking creature's damage to 1 is a repeatable, unconditional wall that protects you for as long as you keep mana open. The cost is the mana requirement and the price tag: this is a Reserved List artifact that demands real budget commitment.

In Commander, Forcefield is at its best: four opponents means four attack steps per round, and a single Forcefield neutralizes every one of them for a single blue mana each, making it quietly oppressive in longer games. Legacy and Vintage allow it, but both formats move too fast for a three-mana artifact that does nothing the turn it enters — combo and tempo decks don't need to minimize combat damage because combat rarely decides those games. Modern, Pioneer, and Standard can't run it at all. Commander is the only format where the card fully justifies its cost, because the game is designed around durability and inevitability rather than speed.

Forcefield is on the Reserved List, so no reprint is coming, and buylist prices have historically reflected that scarcity — expect to pay a significant premium over typical Commander staples. Pricing data isn't available in this snapshot, so check current listings on TCGPlayer or Card Kingdom before buying; Reserved List cards can move sharply on low supply.
