Disperse bounces any nonland permanent back to its owner's hand — no targeting restrictions, no conditions — for two mana at instant speed. Functional but replaceable: in most formats, Unsubstantiate, Brazen Borrower, or Cyclonic Rift do the same job with more attached.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Disperse is a tempo play in a format where tempo rarely wins games — resetting a problematic permanent is fine, but paying two mana to delay rather than answer something is a tough sell when Cyclonic Rift and Reality Shift exist at similar price points. In Pauper, the commons restriction makes Disperse more viable, and the lack of competing options at this cost raises its stock meaningfully. Legacy, Vintage, and Modern have enough strictly better interaction that Disperse doesn't see serious play in any of them. Pioneer offers the clearest case for it in a pinch, but dedicated bounce usually finds Brazen Borrower first.

Price Context
Current price
$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Disperse is bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not the effect. That price is stable because demand is low and supply is everywhere; don't expect movement in either direction.
