Disowned Ancestor

In Commander, Disowned Ancestor occupies the awkward space of a defensive body in a format where blocking rarely matters and games end on combo or board wipes — it sees fringe play in +1/+1 counter builds, particularly under Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim or Doran, the Siege Tower, where a 0/4 base has more punch. In Pauper it's similarly niche, occasionally slotting into mono-black stall or outlast synergy shells, though the outlast cost at three mana per activation is slow even there. Across Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, Disowned Ancestor doesn't compete — one-drop creatures in those formats need to threaten, and a 0/4 that grows at sorcery speed for three mana each time simply doesn't.
