Discover the Impossible
Instant
Look at the top five cards of your library. Exile one of them face down and put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. You may cast the exiled card without paying its mana cost if it's an instant spell with mana value 2 or less. If you don't, put that card into your hand.

Discover the Impossible digs four cards deep and puts an instant directly into your hand — no top-of-library gamble, guaranteed action. Three mana for a cantrip that always finds the counterspell, the removal, or the combo piece you need is exactly what blue control and combo decks want.

In Commander, Discover the Impossible earns its slot in any blue deck that wants instant-speed card selection — three mana to guarantee an instant out of the top four is clean, repeatable value that scales well in longer games. In Legacy and Vintage, the competition is brutal: Brainstorm, Ponder, and Dig Through Time all do more for less, so Discover the Impossible rarely makes the cut outside of very specific instant-matters builds. Modern and Pioneer offer a slightly friendlier environment for effect-specific selection spells, but the three-mana cost is still a steep ask in formats where the pace is unforgiving and cantrips need to cost one.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Discover the Impossible is pure bulk — there's no financial barrier to picking up copies, and it belongs in any trade binder as a cheap but functional include. Bulk instants with clean, unconditional effects tend to hold their floor rather than crater further, so the price is unlikely to move much in either direction.
