Discordant Dirge lands on the battlefield and immediately strips a card from every opponent's hand, then keeps threatening discard on each of your upkeeps as long as it stays in play. Three mana for that kind of sustained hand disruption is a real rate, and in Commander specifically the multi-opponent trigger makes it punch well above its cost.
