Discombobulate counters a spell and lets you scry 2 — that's a real two-for-one on a counterspell, not a tacked-on bonus. Four mana is the honest cost of that upside, and in Commander it's worth paying.

Discombobulate earns its slot in Commander, where the scry 2 smooths draws in a long game and four mana is far less punishing than in 1v1 formats. In Legacy and Vintage, it doesn't come close to competing — Counterspell, Force of Will, and Mana Drain all do more for less. Modern is legal but similarly uninterested; the format's tempo demands leave no room for a four-mana counter. Commander is the one format where Discombobulate is genuinely playable, especially in control builds that want to chain interaction into card selection.

Price Context
Current price
$0.22 bulk tier
At $0.22, Discombobulate is bulk through and through — easy to pick up as a throw-in or from a common box. Bulk counterspells with upside rarely climb, so don't expect movement, but there's no reason to pay more than a quarter for it either.
