Devout Harpist is a one-mana 1/1 that taps to destroy a single Aura enchanting a creature — narrow, slow, and easily ignored until relevant. The effect is too conditional for most lists when instant-speed enchantment removal costs the same or less on a card with broader reach.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Devout Harpist occupies the bottom tier of enchantment hate — the format is full of problem Auras like Corrupted Conscience and Darksteel Mutation, but a tappable 1/1 is too fragile and too slow to reliably answer them before damage is done. Pauper is its most plausible home, where the card pool is shallow enough that a repeatable on-board answer to Auras has some marginal value in creature-based sideboards. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters: the speed of those formats makes a tap-activated 1/1 unplayable. Devout Harpist is legal in Oathbreaker but faces the same structural problem as in Commander — the effect is real, the execution is too slow.

Price Context
Current price
$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Devout Harpist is deep bulk — the price reflects demand that is essentially zero across competitive and casual formats. It won't meaningfully appreciate, and cheaper or more efficient Aura removal exists at the same price point.
