Demonic Consultation is a one-mana instant that ends the game on the spot when Thassa's Oracle hits the battlefield — you name a card not in your deck, exile your entire library, then win on Oracle's trigger. The cost is that every other use of the card is a genuine gamble, which is why it almost exclusively shows up in dedicated combo shells like Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Silas Renn, Seeker Adept rather than as generic fixing.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

| vintage | restricted |

Demonic Consultation carries two restrictions that explain its format history: it can whiff catastrophically if you name something that's actually in your deck, and it can also just win the game on the spot at instant speed for one mana. Legacy banned it because the second problem outweighed the first — the Oracle line required no setup and cost nothing. Vintage restricts it to a single copy for the same reason. Commander gets a pass because you're already constrained to one copy, so the restriction is baked in, and a 100-card singleton deck adds enough variance that Demonic Consultation without a win condition in hand is a liability rather than a freeroll.

Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Silas Renn, Seeker Adept
Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh // Silas Renn, Seeker Adept is the canonical Demonic Consultation home — a cEDH partner pair in Dimir-adjacent colors that wins through the Oracle line and wants every redundant piece it can find. Over 90% of Silas Renn builds run it for exactly that reason.

Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator // Vial Smasher the Fierce
Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator // Vial Smasher the Fierce runs in a four-color shell with access to blue, putting Demonic Consultation alongside Thassa's Oracle as a clean two-card instant-speed win that doesn't require the combat math to resolve.

Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools // Thrasios, Triton Hero
Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools // Thrasios, Triton Hero is one of the defining cEDH partner pairs, and Demonic Consultation slots in as a redundant library-exile effect that closes the game the moment Thrasios's blue gives you access to the Oracle win.

Talion, the Kindly Lord
Talion, the Kindly Lord plays in Dimir and often builds toward an Oracle combo as a secondary win condition, making Demonic Consultation a natural inclusion — one mana, instant speed, and the game ends before Talion's draw triggers even matter.

Tivit, Seller of Secrets
Tivit, Seller of Secrets runs in Esper, giving it access to both pieces of the Demonic Consultation plus Thassa's Oracle line, and the deck's high-power shell means a one-mana instant win is exactly the kind of redundancy it wants alongside its vote-manipulation plan.

Demonic Consultation doesn't have a current price on file, and its value tends to track closely with cEDH demand — older printings and judge promos can swing the secondary market significantly. Check Scryfall or TCGPlayer for the most recent listings before buying, and note that multiple printings exist at different price points.
