Demon's Horn gains you 1 life whenever a player casts a black spell — passive, unconditional, and completely free to run beyond its 2-mana equip-nothing cost. In most decks that's irrelevant trickle, but Acererak the Archlich loops through dungeons repeatedly in a single turn, and each black spell cast along the way stacks that life total into a meaningful buffer or a lethal drain trigger.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Acererak the Archlich
Acererak the Archlich bounces himself and gets recast over and over in the combo turn, and Demon's Horn turns each of those casts into a life-gain event — which matters when the win condition involves draining opponents or fueling triggers that care about life gained.

Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose
Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose converts every life-gain event into opponent life loss, so Demon's Horn's per-spell trickle becomes a slow but real damage source across a black-heavy game.

Gwenom, Remorseless
Gwenom, Remorseless wants life-gain triggers firing as frequently as possible, and Demon's Horn provides one on nearly every spell the deck casts without asking anything extra of the mana base.

K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth
K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth pays life to cast spells, and Demon's Horn partially offsets that tax — in a deck that routinely bleeds 2–4 life per spell, the cumulative recovery is real enough to matter.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

Demon's Horn is a Commander card, full stop. In Legacy and Vintage it's too slow and too narrow — life gain at 1 per spell doesn't close games or protect you in formats where the game ends on turn one or two. Commander is where the repetition makes it viable: black-heavy decks cast enough black spells in a game that Demon's Horn accumulates 6–12 life without any effort, and commanders like Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Acererak the Archlich turn those increments into something the table has to respect. Oathbreaker follows the same logic at a compressed game length, which makes it slightly weaker there but still playable in dedicated life-gain shells.

Current price
$0.73 bulk tier
At $0.73, Demon's Horn is bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not power. It won't hold or gain value, but in the specific decks that want it, the price is irrelevant: it's a throw-in that earns its slot on function alone.
