Defang card art
Defang neutralizes a creature permanently — no attack, no block, no activated abilities — for two mana as an enchantment, which means it sticks until someone has an answer for it. Cheap, non-destructive removal that blanks commanders and utility creatures alike, though it leaves the body on the battlefield and does nothing against noncreature threats.

In Commander, Defang punches above its cost because commanders are the most threatening creatures at the table and destroying them just sends them back to the command zone — Defang cages them on the battlefield instead, denying their activated abilities and combat presence without triggering command tax. In Pauper, it's a legitimate answer to aggressive creatures where enchantment removal is scarce, and the two-mana cost fits comfortably into control shells. Competitive formats like Legacy and Vintage have no use for it — those formats demand permanent answers or interaction on the stack, not a slow aura. Oathbreaker mirrors the Commander case: blanking a planeswalker's static effects isn't relevant, but locking down creature threats for two mana is a fine role-player in slower builds.

Price Context

Current price

$0.06 bulk tier

At $0.06, Defang is deep bulk — you're paying essentially nothing for a functional piece of removal. Bulk commons rarely move in price regardless of play demand, so don't expect the number to change; just grab a copy out of a junk box and move on.
