In Commander, Deep Freeze punches above its price: instant speed at three mana handles commanders before they can activate, and the enchantment subtype matters in Aura-synergy builds. The body it leaves behind is occasionally relevant — opponents can still sacrifice the creature or blink it to reset — so decks with exile-based removal compete for the slot, but the low cost keeps Deep Freeze viable. In Pauper, it's one of the strongest common answers to problematic creatures at common rarity, seeing real play in blue control shells.
