Commander is where Deathreap Ritual belongs — multiplayer games guarantee that creatures die constantly across four players, and morbid triggers fire on anyone's end step, not just yours. The four-mana cost is acceptable in a format where games go long and a single card that draws over five or six turns generates massive value. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal but competes with draw engines that cost one or two mana and win games on the spot, so it never sees play there. Oathbreaker is the one other format worth mentioning: faster games mean fewer guaranteed triggers, but token-sacrifice strategies can still make it work.
