Death Rattle destroys a target creature and can't be countered by spells or abilities — for three mana, that's a clean, reliable answer. The uncounterability is the whole reason to run it over cheaper removal that a Spellstutter Sprite or a Counterspell can snuff out.

In Commander, Death Rattle fills a narrow niche: tables where blue countermagic is constant and your removal keeps getting answered before it resolves. Outside that context, three mana for a single-target destroy effect is overcosted by modern Commander standards. In Pauper, uncounterable interaction at common is genuinely valuable, and Death Rattle sees occasional sideboard play against blue tempo strategies. Legacy and Vintage have faster, cheaper options, so Death Rattle doesn't compete there. It's a format-fringe card that earns its slot in exactly one scenario.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Death Rattle is pure bulk — there's no price floor to protect here. Demand is too narrow and supply too plentiful for that to change.
