Deadfall lets you sacrifice any number of green creatures to deal that much damage to target creature or player — a mana-free, instant-speed way to redirect board presence into a kill shot or a chunk of life loss. It sees almost no play, and that's fair: spending your creatures to deal damage is a steep rate when most green decks would rather swing with them.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Deadfall is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but it sees meaningful play in none of them. In Commander, the effect is too narrow — sacrificing multiple creatures for a single damage source doesn't close games the way a combat step or an actual finisher does, and green has no shortage of better ways to spend its creatures. Legacy and Vintage move too fast for a sorcery-speed setup that requires a board of expendable green bodies. Oathbreaker shares the Commander problem at a smaller scale. Deadfall is a curio, not a role-player.

Price Context
Current price
$1.77 cheap tier
At $1.77, Deadfall sits in the cheap tier despite having nearly zero competitive demand — the price reflects collector interest in older printings rather than gameplay utility. Don't expect that floor to move meaningfully in either direction.
