Day of the Moon phases out all permanents your opponents control — effectively blanking their entire board for a turn while leaving yours untouched. The cost is steep enough that it belongs in dedicated flicker or phasing synergy builds, not as a generic wipe, but in the right shell it's a one-sided Armageddon stapled to a time walk.

Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Day of the Moon sees virtually no play in Legacy or Vintage despite being legal — five mana for a one-turn lockout doesn't compete in formats where games end on turns two or three. Commander is the card's natural home: the multiplayer board state means phasing out three opponents' worth of permanents is genuinely backbreaking, and the slower clock gives you time to exploit the window. In Oathbreaker it's similarly viable but harder to justify against the tighter mana constraints of that format.
