Dark Favor puts +3/+1 on a creature for two mana — reasonable stats — but the 1 life per upkeep is a real clock against yourself in a format built around attrition and long games. It's an aura that trades card equity for a temporary body buff, and that deal rarely pays off.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Dark Favor is a bulk common that sees essentially no competitive play across any format. In Commander, enchanting a creature you don't own is a liability — removal is everywhere, and losing Dark Favor to a single Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares sets you back a card plus ongoing life. Pauper is the one format where aura-based strategies exist, but even there, more efficient options like Ethereal Armor outclass it entirely. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, the card simply isn't played — the +3/+1 isn't big enough to justify the aura risk at any level of competition.

$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Dark Favor is deep bulk — you'll find copies in any common box at your local store. It won't hold or gain value; bulk auras with no competitive home stay bulk.
