Cursed Rack card art
Cursed Rack forces an opponent to discard down to four cards each end step — a repeating hand-size tax that compounds every turn without any additional investment. Four mana to deploy and zero mana to maintain makes it one of the most efficient discard locks in black.

In Commander, Cursed Rack is a legitimate discard-synergy staple — four players means the four-card cap triggers repeatedly across multiple end steps each round, and enchantment-based permanents are harder to interact with than creatures. Legacy permits it but the format's explosive pace and access to Hymn to Tourach and Wasteland make a four-mana enchantment too slow for competitive play. Vintage allows it, but again, the raw power ceiling of the format leaves little room for incremental hand-size pressure. Cursed Rack is almost exclusively a Commander card in practice — the multiplayer math and synergy density of discard commanders make it far more impactful there than anywhere else.

Price Context

Current price

$3.19 cheap tier

At $3.19, Cursed Rack sits in the cheap tier — accessible enough that there's no meaningful budget barrier to running it. It holds that price steadily because demand is real but narrow, concentrated in dedicated discard builds rather than general black staples.
