Crystallization locks down a creature permanently — no combat, no activated abilities — for just two mana across two colors. It's one of the most efficient aura-based answers in Azorius and Simic piles, and the enchantment subtype makes it pull double duty in anything that cares about enchantments.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Crystallization earns its slot in any Azorius or Bant enchantress shell that wants removal doubling as synergy fodder — it answers a threat and triggers constellation or enchantment-payoff effects simultaneously. Pauper is where it quietly overperforms: hard removal at common rarity is scarce, and completely nullifying a creature for two mana is a real rate in that environment. Legacy and Vintage have cleaner answers at similar or lower cost, so Crystallization rarely makes the cut there outside of dedicated enchantment synergy builds. It's legal in Oathbreaker and fills the same role as in Commander — efficient enchantment-based removal that scales reasonably with the format's tighter deck construction.

Price Context
Current price
$0.15 bulk tier
At $0.15, Crystallization is deep bulk — grab a playset without thinking about it. The price is stable at floor; demand from enchantress Commander builds is real but not enough to move a common off the bottom shelf.
