Crown of Skemfar card art
Crown of Skemfar drops an Elf token and immediately pumps your whole team — on-board impact before it even untaps. At two mana with a tap ability that scales with your board, Lathril, Blade of the Elves decks run it because the token feeds Lathril's drain trigger and the anthem keeps combat math in your favor.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Lathril, Blade of the Elves

Lathril, Blade of the Elves

33.9% of decks · synergy 0.31

Lathril, Blade of the Elves wants as many Elves as possible to trigger its drain ability, and Crown of Skemfar delivers a free token on entry plus a recurring tap ability that pumps the whole tribe — both halves are doing work in the same turn you attack.

02
Abomination of Llanowar

Abomination of Llanowar

26.5% of decks · synergy 0.23

Abomination of Llanowar's power and toughness scale with Elf count, so the token Crown of Skemfar generates is a direct stat buff to the commander, and the anthem makes that already-large creature even harder to block profitably.

03
Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury

9.7% of decks · synergy 0.09

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury builds a wide Elf board through her +2, and Crown of Skemfar adds another body to that count while giving the team a size bonus that turns Freyalise's tokens from chump attackers into genuine threats.

Commander is where Crown of Skemfar does all its work — tribal synergy payoffs scale with the size of your board, and a 40-life game gives you the time to exploit the tap ability repeatedly. In Legacy and Vintage it's technically legal, but Elf tribal there is a focused combo shell that doesn't want a two-mana enchantment with a tap ability when it's trying to win on turn one or two. Oathbreaker is the one non-Commander 60-card-adjacent format where Crown of Skemfar could see play, again only in a dedicated Elf shell with a green creature commander. Outside of those tribal EDH contexts, there's no real case for it.

Price Context

Current price

$2.02 cheap tier

At $2.02, Crown of Skemfar sits in the budget-staple tier — cheap enough to include without deliberation in any Elf deck that wants it. It sees enough play in Lathril builds specifically that the price is unlikely to crater, but there's no reason to expect appreciation either; it's a single-printing tribal piece with a narrow home.
