Crater Hellion enters and deals 4 damage to everything — creatures, players, the whole board — then swings as a 6/4 echo threat that demands an answer the following turn. Six mana for a sweeper stapled to a body is a real rate, but the echo cost means you're paying twelve total if you want to keep it, which most pilots won't.

Commander is where Crater Hellion earns its keep — it's a one-sided board wipe in token and go-wide decks that can build above the 4-toughness threshold, and the echo drawback is easy to dodge via flicker, sac outlets, or simply letting it die. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but irrelevant; six mana at sorcery speed with an echo tax gets nowhere near a competitive spell slot when Pyroclasm and Fury exist. Oathbreaker follows the Commander logic closely: if your commander survives 4 damage or benefits from the clear, Crater Hellion is a reasonable include at the top of the curve.

$0.16 bulk tier
At $0.16, Crater Hellion is deep bulk — there's no financial friction to picking it up. Bulk rares with narrow Commander niches tend to stay right here, so don't expect movement.
