Court Street Denizen card art
Court Street Denizen taps down an opponent's creature every time a white creature enters the battlefield under your control — a repeatable soft lock that compounds fast in token strategies. Hylda of the Icy Crown is the obvious home: every tap Court Street Denizen forces is a trigger Hylda can cash in for tokens, card draw, or a 4/4, turning a three-mana 2/1 into a genuine engine piece.

Hylda of the Icy Crown

Hylda of the Icy Crown

75.2% of decks · synergy 0.72

Hylda of the Icy Crown is the defining shell for Court Street Denizen — every white creature entering your battlefield taps an opponent's creature, which Hylda reads as a fresh trigger and converts into tokens or draw, creating a self-reinforcing loop that scales with the size of your board.

02
Adeline, Resplendent Cathar

Adeline, Resplendent Cathar

46.4% of decks · synergy 0.44

Adeline, Resplendent Cathar floods the board with Human tokens whenever she attacks, and each of those entering creatures hands Court Street Denizen another tap target, turning combat into a one-sided lockout.

03
Darien, King of Kjeldor

Darien, King of Kjeldor

19.3% of decks · synergy 0.17

Darien, King of Kjeldor converts the damage you take into Soldier tokens, and every Soldier that arrives off Darien's trigger gives Court Street Denizen another tap activation — so opponents punish themselves for attacking and get their blockers locked down in return.

04
Myrel, Shield of Argive

Myrel, Shield of Argive

13.6% of decks · synergy 0.11

Myrel, Shield of Argive produces Soldier tokens at end of combat and protects your board during your turn, giving Court Street Denizen a steady supply of white creatures to enter and a protected window to use the resulting taps without fear of interaction.

Court Street Denizen is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Pauper, Vintage, and Oathbreaker. In Commander it earns its slot almost exclusively in white token strategies, particularly Hylda of the Icy Crown builds where the tap triggers chain directly into the commander's ability. Pauper is the one competitive format where a repeatable tap-on-enter effect on a common body is worth examining — white weenie and flicker shells can get mileage out of the effect, though it rarely breaks through as a staple. In Modern and Pioneer the effect is simply too slow and fragile for a 2/1 at three mana to compete.

Price Context

Current price

$0.16 bulk tier

At $0.16, Court Street Denizen is deep bulk — you can fill a playset for less than a dollar without thinking twice. Bulk commons with narrow homes don't typically climb in price, so treat it as a free slot to acquire rather than a spec.
