Cosmogoyf is a self-scaling threat that grows off the graveyard types already present in any Commander game, regularly hitting 6/7 or larger by the mid-game without any dedicated support. Commanders like Disa the Restless that actively stock the graveyard and care about Lhurgoyf creatures turn it from a beater into a centerpiece, and even in graveyard-agnostic shells it outgrows most comparable costs by turn four or five.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Disa the Restless
Disa the Restless tutors Lhurgoyf creatures directly onto the battlefield, which means Cosmogoyf enters immediately at whatever massive size the combined graveyards support — no casting cost, no waiting, just a free threat that also fuels Disa's recursive engine.

Teval, Arbiter of Virtue
Teval, Arbiter of Virtue fills the graveyard aggressively through its investigate and mill triggers, which directly inflates Cosmogoyf's power and toughness while Teval's own counters-matter gameplan rewards having a large, persistent attacker on board.

In Commander, Cosmogoyf is the strongest it will ever be — four players means four graveyards, and the sheer variety of card types hitting bins across a table makes it routine to have an 8/9 or larger by the mid-game. Modern and Legacy are harder homes: graveyard hate is prevalent, and competitive creature slots demand immediate impact or protection Cosmogoyf doesn't inherently provide. Pioneer gives it a more reasonable shot in graveyard-adjacent midrange shells where the hate is lighter, but it still needs a dedicated shell to reliably outclass format staples. Standard is where Cosmogoyf has the most room to breathe as a build-around threat, especially while self-mill and graveyard synergies are well-supported in the format.
