Coral Reef turns any Island into a renewable blue mana source by letting you pay one and tap an enchanted land to add one blue, at the cost of removing a counter from the enchantment each time — and when the counters run out, the Reef goes with it. It's a niche engine piece, not a staple, and the only shells that want it are the ones that profit from having an enchantment enter or leave the battlefield repeatedly.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Coral Reef is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but sees meaningful play in almost none of them. In Commander, the counter-drain mechanic means it runs out of gas in roughly four to five uses unless you have a way to replenish or recur it — most blue decks would rather run a basic Island. Pauper is the closest thing to a real home, where enchantment-matters and flicker strategies at common rarity can extract value from the enter-and-leave loop. Legacy and Vintage have no use for it.

Price Context
Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Coral Reef is deep bulk — the kind of card you pull from a commons box, not a singles order. The price reflects real demand, which is close to zero outside a narrow set of enchantment-recursion brews.
