Conversion turns every Mountain your opponents control into a Plains for as long as it stays on the battlefield — a hard lock on red mana that costs four mana and two white per upkeep to maintain. It's a narrow hate piece: useless against non-red tables and backbreaking against mono-red or heavy-red builds.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Conversion sees essentially no competitive play in Legacy or Vintage, where red decks are fast enough to kill you before the upkeep cost becomes relevant and where sideboard options like Leyline of Sanctity handle threats more cleanly. Commander is the only format where Conversion has a real argument — specifically in stax or prison builds that can sustain the two-white upkeep and that regularly face red-heavy tables. Even there, it's a meta call: one opponent on Krenko, Mob Boss or Purphoros, God of the Forge justifies the slot; a diverse four-player pod usually doesn't. Oathbreaker is legal but too small a format to generate consistent demand for it.

Price Context
Current price
$4.50 cheap tier
At $4.50, Conversion sits at the low end of niche-but-playable enchantments — you're paying a small collector premium for an old card with a narrow use case, not for raw power. The price is stable rather than rising; it doesn't get reprinted often, but demand is too thin for it to climb meaningfully either.
