Cogwork Archivist card art
Cogwork Archivist shuffles any number of target players' graveyards back into their libraries — a repeatable graveyard reset stapled to a 4/5 body for six mana. The cost is real: six mana for a creature with no evasion and no immediate board impact is a steep ask outside dedicated graveyard-hate shells.

Format Analysis

oathbreaker

In Commander, Cogwork Archivist fills a narrow role: resetting one or more opponents' graveyards while dodging the 'each player' symmetry of cards like Bojuka Bog's permanent exile or Elixir of Immortality. It's most relevant at tables where reanimator or flashback strategies are prevalent, but six mana for a creature that doesn't affect the board immediately means it competes poorly against instant-speed hate like Rest in Peace. In Pauper it's legal but irrelevant — the format moves too fast for a six-mana do-nothing-immediately body. Legacy, Modern, Vintage, and Pioneer are similarly hostile; Cogwork Archivist's effect isn't powerful enough relative to its cost to see play in any of them.

Price Context

Current price

$0.13 bulk tier

At $0.13, Cogwork Archivist is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not demand. That price is stable by default: there's no spike potential here without a dramatic shift in how Commander tables value slow, non-exile graveyard hate.
