Coffin Queen card art
Coffin Queen steals creatures from any graveyard and puts them directly under your control — the catch is that tapping her ends the arrangement and exiles the creature, so you need ways to untap her repeatedly to get real mileage out of the ability. Pair her with a zero-cost tap outlet like Cloud of Faeries and she becomes a repeatable reanimation engine on a three-mana body. The verdict: underplayed, high ceiling, and punishingly good against creature-heavy tables.

Merieke Ri Berit already wants untap enablers to repeatedly steal and destroy opponents' creatures, and Coffin Queen plugs into the exact same infrastructure — the same Pemmin's Aura or Freed from the Real that untaps Merieke untaps the Queen, effectively doubling your theft capacity out of the same support package.

Commander is where Coffin Queen does her best work: multiplayer graveyards fill fast, giving her a wide menu of targets, and the untap synergies she demands are abundant in blue-black shells. In Legacy and Vintage she's legal but too slow and conditional — reanimation in those formats wants the creature in play immediately, not tethered to a tappable three-drop. Oathbreaker is a reasonable home if your signature spell supports an untap or sacrifice loop, but the format's lower power ceiling means the engine rarely gets to run at full speed. Outside those formats she doesn't exist, and that's fine; Coffin Queen is a Commander card through and through.

Price Context

Current price

$1.04 cheap tier

At $1.04, Coffin Queen sits in the cheap tier — strong value for an older card with a unique, repeatable effect that no modern card has cleanly replaced. The price reflects modest demand rather than weakness; she's a niche piece that the right deck wants badly, so don't expect the floor to drop further.
