Cocoon

Enchantment — Aura

Enchant creature you control
When this Aura enters, tap enchanted creature and put three pupa counters on this Aura.
Enchanted creature doesn't untap during your untap step if this Aura has a pupa counter on it.
At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a pupa counter from this Aura. If you can't, sacrifice it, put a +1/+1 counter on enchanted creature, and that creature gains flying.

Cocoon card art
Cocoon pays three mana and three turns to convert a creature into a 2/2 flier with a +1/+1 counter — a steep, slow investment that most decks have no reason to make. Unless you're deliberately engineering the enter-stasis trigger or abusing the counters, this is a bulk rare curiosity, not a playable.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict

oathbreaker

Cocoon is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but legality and playability aren't the same thing. In Legacy and Vintage the card is simply too slow and too narrow to compete. Commander is the only format where Cocoon has any theoretical home — specifically in counter-manipulation or stasis-abuse builds that can turn the hibernation counters into a resource — but even there, the three-turn clock and the fragility to removal make it fringe at best.

Price Context

Current price

$0.22 bulk tier

At $0.22, Cocoon is deep bulk — you're paying for the cardboard, not the card. That price reflects real demand, which is minimal, and it's unlikely to move unless a future commander creates a dedicated hibernation-counter synergy out of nowhere.
