Circle of Solace lets you pay one mana to redirect any damage that would hit your creatures or players to itself — effectively a reusable damage sink that stalls aggro and combat-based kill conditions for as long as it stays on board. The catch is the three-mana entry cost and the fact that a single Naturalize ends the protection immediately.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Circle of Solace is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but the only format where it realistically sees play is Commander. In Legacy and Vintage, the speed of those formats makes a three-mana enchantment that requires additional mana activation too slow to matter against the threats you actually face. In Commander, Circle of Solace is a niche pickup for pillow-fort strategies that want redundant damage prevention layers, but it competes with more unconditional options and sees very low overall inclusion.

Price Context
Current price
$0.37 bulk tier
At $0.37, Circle of Solace is bulk — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in rather than a deliberate purchase. Bulk enchantments with narrow applications rarely appreciate, so there's no meaningful reason to stock up.
