Cinder Pyromancer card art
Cinder Pyromancer deals 1 damage to any target at the cost of tapping — trivial on its own, but pair it with Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might and that 1 becomes 4, or slot it into a Cloudstone Curio bounce loop and it machine-guns the table down. The floor is low and the ceiling is real; you run it because the engine pays for the mediocrity.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might

17.2% of decks · synergy 0.16

Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might turns every Cinder Pyromancer activation from a 1-damage poke into a 4-damage shot, and since Ojer replaces non-combat damage dealt to opponents that would be less than 4, repeated tapping at multiple targets becomes genuinely threatening. Cinder Pyromancer shows up in over 17% of Ojer lists for exactly that reason.

02
Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph

Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph

15.9% of decks · synergy 0.15

Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph triggers whenever a source deals exactly 1 damage to a permanent or player, pinging for 2 more — Cinder Pyromancer is a free Ghyrson trigger stapled to a body you can activate every turn. In a 1-damage-matters shell, Cinder Pyromancer is one of the cleanest redundant pieces you can run.

03
Torbran, Thane of Red Fell

Torbran, Thane of Red Fell

11.6% of decks · synergy 0.11

Torbran, Thane of Red Fell adds 2 to all red damage sources, so Cinder Pyromancer's 1 becomes 3 on each activation — enough to trade with utility creatures and accrue meaningful chip damage across a long game. It's not the most explosive combination, but Torbran lists that want density of pingers reliably reach for Cinder Pyromancer.

Cinder Pyromancer is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but the only format where it does real work is Commander — specifically in pinger-amplifier shells built around Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph, Ojer Axonil, Deepest Might, or Torbran, Thane of Red Fell. In Pauper it's technically playable, but a 2/1 that taps to deal 1 damage doesn't clear a format where blocking is cheap and life totals are only 20. In Legacy, Modern, and Vintage, Cinder Pyromancer is far too slow to see any play. Commander is its home and, practically speaking, its only format.
