Chromatic Star card art
Chromatic Star draws a card when it dies, fixes any color of mana on the way out, and costs one mana to deploy — the floor is always positive. In Emry, Lurker of the Loch decks it becomes a repeatable engine: Emry casts it from the graveyard, you crack it again, and the card-draw loop fuels itself for free.

Emry, Lurker of the Loch

Emry, Lurker of the Loch casts Chromatic Star directly from the graveyard, turning a single copy into an indefinitely repeatable draw-and-fix loop that costs nothing beyond the initial one mana.

02
Glissa, the Traitor

Glissa, the Traitor

42.3% of decks · synergy 0.42

Glissa, the Traitor returns Chromatic Star from the graveyard to hand whenever an opponent's creature dies, so cracking the Star to draw and fix mana also sets up the next cast for free.

03
Gandalf the White

Gandalf the White

36.0% of decks · synergy 0.35

Chromatic Star is a zero-cost artifact enter-the-battlefield trigger for Gandalf the White, letting him recast spells off the top while drawing a card and producing colored mana in the same motion.

04
Oswald Fiddlebender

Oswald Fiddlebender

36.8% of decks · synergy 0.35

Oswald Fiddlebender sacrifices artifacts to tutor others, and Chromatic Star replaces itself with a card draw the moment Oswald uses it as fodder — you lose nothing and gain a new piece.

05
Lyse Hext

Lyse Hext

29.3% of decks · synergy 0.29

Chromatic Star triggers artifact-matters payoffs under Lyse Hext twice — once entering, once cracking — while the cantrip keeps the hand full and the mana flexible.

oathbreaker

In Commander, Chromatic Star earns its slot in any artifact-recursion or storm shell where repeated self-sacrifice generates value; outside those synergy decks it's a filler piece and rarely worth a slot. In Pauper it sees genuine play as a cantripping mana-fixer in artifact and metalcraft strategies where every draw matters and the color pip can be critical. Legacy and Vintage have access to it but the power bar is high enough that Chromatic Star only shows up in dedicated artifact combo lists, not as a general inclusion. It's not legal in Pioneer or Standard, so those conversations stop there.

Price Context

Current price

$0.36 bulk tier

At $0.36, Chromatic Star is firmly bulk — pick it up in any common bin or as a throw-in without hesitation. Price is stable; this is a card people buy for function, not scarcity, and reprints haven't moved the needle meaningfully.
