Channel Harm redirects all damage that would be dealt to you this turn onto any target — creatures, planeswalkers, players, face — turning a big alpha strike into a one-sided removal spell or a kill shot. Five mana at instant speed is expensive for a trick, but the ceiling on Channel Harm is high enough that it earns a slot in the right shell.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Channel Harm is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker. Commander is by far the most realistic home: five mana is tolerable in a format with ramp, and redirecting a Craterhoof Behemoth trigger or a commander's combat damage into the face of another opponent is the kind of political bomb that closes games. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern and Legacy, it doesn't see play — five mana for a conditional trick is too slow against the threats those formats actually present. Pioneer is theoretically viable in a lifegain or fog shell, but better options exist at that price point.

$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Channel Harm is deep bulk — pick it up for pocket change at any card shop. Bulk rares with narrow applications rarely move off the floor, so don't expect appreciation, but at this price the risk of including it is purely the deck slot.
