Cartographer card art
Cartographer returns a basic land from your graveyard to your hand every time it enters the battlefield — repeatable land recursion stapled to a 1/1 body for two mana. The ceiling is infinite ETB loops with Escape Protocol; the floor is a niche budget piece that most decks handle better with Eternal Witness or Nyx Weaver.

Cartographer is a Commander card first and nearly exclusively. The ETB trigger is cheap enough to recur repeatedly in blink or bounce shells, and the graveyard-to-hand land loop patches mana bases that keep getting Strip Mined or Wasteland'd. In Pauper it's legal but outclassed by Diligent Farmhand and similar commons that put the land directly onto the battlefield. Legacy and Vintage don't want a two-mana 1/1 for incremental land recursion when faster, more impactful options exist at every slot.

Price Context

Current price

$0.24 bulk tier

At $0.24, Cartographer is deep bulk — grab it out of a commons box and don't think twice about the price. It's not a card that spikes; demand stays narrow enough that $0.24 is likely its ceiling as much as its floor.
